Dublin City upped its game for Christmas 2019 and what a delight it was. While the city has always celebrated Christmas with a host of lights around the main thoroughfares, some areas seemed to lack the Christmas atmosphere and perhaps the “Joy”? Christmas 2019 in Dublin city was definitely a turn in the right direction. As photographers the city has a draw that shopping centres can’t really touch, interesting landmarks, a Georgian flair, plenty of activity and of course the Liffey and her bridges. At Christmas time however parking costs and lack of time and traffic push people to their local shopping centres as all the shops are similar chains and of course to shop online.

Dublin City made itself a shopping and strolling destination Christmas 2019 with projections on many city buildings and a couple of beautifully thought out city markets. With the loss of The Christmas flea and it’s top quality traders, which was felt as a major a blow to many crafts people and artists, hopefully the success of Smithfield and Dublin Castle markets will be the start of Dublin city as a shopping destination inclusive of many small traders. Variety really is the spice of life

We captured a little of the city under lights at Christmas 2019 and look forward to watching how Dubliners start to fall in love with Christmas in Dublin city all over again
