What a Blooming fantastic event on the Dublin calendar. Bloom Gardening Festival is held annually ,usually on the June Bank Holiday weekend by An Bord Bia. It is hugely popular, bringing people who love plants and of course fine food, together for a four day festival.
Bloom in the Park as it is known is held in the Phoenix park the largest green space in Ireland’s capital city. It attracts attendance from all across the country with huge car parking areas and public transport links. Nua photography attended on probably the sunniest day of the festival which meant the public put on their sunscreen and arrived ticketless in their droves to soak up the summer atmosphere.
While it was a struggle to keep the straw hats of avid gardeners out of our photographs we are very pleased to have captured a great feel for this high profile festival. The Bloom festival has just as much on sale as on show, so while we had hoped we could set up some seriously creative images of the festival, it was elbows in and breathes held to get through the crowds with their shopping bags full of trowls and things and flowerpots full of rare seedlings, to get a glimpse the displays both in the marquees and outside.
A big part of “Bloom in the Park” is the Super Garden RTE TV gardener talent show. Each Gardener is given a family’s brief and they design and transform the garden from usually a heap of weeds and scruffy dereliction to professional standard. The gardens are reconstructed at Bloom each year and judged which is a great draw to the visiting public. We had the pleasure of running into the organisers Gary Graham and Annmaria Fagan who had extended an invitation to us to attend the Festival, what a terrific hard working team they are.
